My First Julebord

The first time it happened to me

I did not know how to react

All my Norwegian colleagues and supervisors lined up

 one after the other

 to tell me how good of a job I was doing.

 

I had never been told that I was doing a good job

Nor had I been told that I was doing a bad job

I was actually wondering if any of my work was at all noticed

Or if anyone cared

 

I was experiencing a great lack of acknowledgement

Both positive or negative feedback would have helped

The best I got was “Det var bra” or “Det er godt nok”

 

 Julebord is the yearly feedback day

You get the feedback for the whole year that passed

It is very pragmatic

Very efficient

But do not talk about it when you get back to work on the Monday morning

What happens at the Julebord

Stays there

And this is an important rule

It keeps the rate of divorce low in Norway
