In many places around the world
Kids are raised to become part of a group
To contribute to the group
To depend on the group
They are shown how to give and take from that group
They should contribute when they can
They will receive if they need
They depend on that group for survival
In certain countries
Working adults may share bank account with their parents until they get married
And you do not need to go far away to encounter that
Actually you do not need to get outside Europe
In Norway, children are raised to become independent and self-sufficient
It influences behaviours throughout their lives
Independence is at the core of Norwegian Friendships
Norwegians do not like to owe to others
They want things to be equal and in equilibrium
At any point in time
If a Norwegian orders just for himself
it does not mean he does not like you
it simply means that he does not want you to feel like you owe him something
He is polite
Norwegian polite
